Opportunity Snapshot

This role runs the gamut from routine network administration and application server maintenance to computer troubleshooting/help-desk support and management of long-term capital projects. Pivotal to your success in our fast-paced dynamic environment is a can-do, high energy approach as you drive excellence and best practices in the Property's day to day technology functions. This includes the ability to be on-call in a 24/7 service environment and provide impeccable operations support to over 450 users (ranging from hourly workers to executive management with varied levels of technical expertise). Equally important is your ability to think strategically as you play an ongoing role in the creation, execution and refinement of IT strategies to maximize opportunities for the Property and help us create a "best in class" IT infrastructure.

Destination Hotels & Resorts is the country's second largest independent hospitality management company with over 7,500 employees, 7,000 guest rooms, and $1.5 billion in assets under management. We've achieved tremendous success with our innovative business model of one-of-a-kind properties, each of which is fully empowered with their own decentralized management team. This allows us to quickly address changing market conditions and property needs to create a signature DH&R branding experience --and added value for our discerning guests.

What You'll Bring to the Table

  • 3-6 years of networking and systems support experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft server and workstation systems
  • Desktop Support, general troubleshooting and problem resolution experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of technical aptitude and desire to learn a broad spectrum of new technologies
  • Attention to detail and flexibility in both planning and execution of changes
  • Sustained ability to execute on critical projects with accelerated schedules
  • A passion for improving processes and a commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Preferred, but not required:
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS/IT or related discipline
  • Hotel or similar hospitality industry experience
  • Working knowledge of Delphi, Oracle and Galaxy is a plus

What's in It for You

  • The opportunity to make an impact -- you'll play a vital support role within our organization by ensuring our mission critical systems are available and properly maintained and by helping our internal team make the best use of them. In addition, we'll encourage you to introduce your ideas for innovation and improvement to further optimize our business.
  • Great environment -- we've fostered a creative, entrepreneurial and energetic work environment where people come to work and have fun. You'll be based out of our Sheraton Universal Property which is conveniently located on the back lot of Universal Studios, just minutes from Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and downtown Los Angeles.
  • Career growth -- there's a plethora of opportunities in the SoCal area and your success in this role will set you up to take on increased responsibilities and advance your career.
  • Personal autonomy -- you'll be empowered to take ownership of your objectives and to achieve your goals on your own initiative.
  • Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical/dental/vision coverage, 401(k) plan and more.

More About Your Role

You'll report directly to the Director of Finance at the Property with a dotted line to DH&R Technology Regional. You'll be the one-person IT department for this Property and after a short "breaking-in" period, we'll look to you to plan, coordinate, direct, and design all operational IT activities and roll up your sleeves to provide tactical support and troubleshooting. We operate in an evolving environment with limited established processes and your initial challenge is to work at a hands-on level while providing the vision for technical excellence.

The Property is in the midst of a major renovation as we implement new IT systems and as you come on board, we'll look to you to ensure a smooth transition. Of course, you'll have plenty of training support from our sister properties that will enable you to perform at full speed.

This role will evolve over time, but at a high level, you'll spend about 75% of your time on routine network administration/maintenance and help desk support and the remaining 25% with project-based activities. Specifically, your responsibilities are to:
  • Evaluate property needs and develop and oversee implementation of technology solutions at the hotel as you ensure consistency with overall corporate strategy.
  • Provide clear leadership and direction to the Property technology users.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other key executives across various functional lines to build and maintain productive relationships.
  • Ensure all technology is properly deployed in conjunction with technology standards.
  • Ensure acceptable performance in computing and network systems.
  • Manage vendors to implement and support applications.
  • Provide end user support for desktop and network related problems.
  • Setup computer software and hardware for new/existing staff.
  • Setup and maintain all user account and computer configurations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate software/hardware inventory.
  • Monitor server performance, disk space, error logs, and backups of critical systems.
  • Provide on-call service for emergency desktop/network maintenance.
  • Perform in a manner fully aligned with DH&R and the Property's core values and overall strategic objectives.

Keys to Success

As with any IT role, you'll showcase strong technical savvy and outstanding troubleshooting skills to excel here, but equally important will be your ability to keep our users satisfied with the support they receive. This will require you to comprehend their needs and requirements and to effectively speak to each user's level of technical understanding -- which can range from the highly proficient to novice users with little technical background -- with patience and consideration. Other facets of success will be to:
  • Take a hands-on approach (this is so important that it bears repeating), from patiently troubleshooting a user issue to contributing to the development of a new application.
  • Be a positive catalyst for change; you'll not only be a change agent in a dynamic environment, but also influence others to embrace these system wide changes. You'll proactively implement training programs for the user community to help them maximize technology's potential and make their lives easier.
  • Maintain a "big picture" outlook and demonstrate a strategic approach to problem solving, continually evaluating our processes and systems as you drive improvements and look for new and better ways to help us achieve our objectives.
  • Remain flexible as you "wear many hats" and showcase extreme organization and multitasking savvy as you prioritize and re-prioritize a high volume of requests at a moment's notice.
  • Maintain your cool head and sense of humor in a fast-paced environment.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity, and you meet the required qualifications, we look forward to hearing from you
